As I'm sure you will agree, it's always good to have to a decent camera on hand because essentially, you never know when you may need one. Let's face it; we've all been in a position where we regret not having a camera with us in order to capture one or other special moment. With the arrival of the Canon Powershot SX10IS camera, it is no longer necessary for anyone to miss out on those special photographic opportunities anymore.

It doesn?t matter if it is a birthday party you are going to or just a day out with the family. Having a camera is a great opportunity to capture special moments and to treasure memories.

The Canon Powershot SX10IS camera includes a great many features such as a ten mega pixel resolution, which by all accounts enables you to take extremely high quality photographs. Because of this high level of quality, you are also afforded some excellent printing opportunities in that you know your pictures will be printed to perfection. Also, the camera provides one with a great deal of flexibility with regards to editing the pictures.

With 20 x optical zoom you will be able to capture far-away objects, and the Optical Image Stabilizer as well as the wide-angle lens allows for quiet zooming and accurate speed. This camera is great for taking pictures of the wildlife, as the zoom is quiet so it will not make a noise and scare away the animal you are trying to take a picture of.

It is also worth noting that the 2.5 inch LCD features a processor known as "DIGIC 4". Essentially, this does an incredible job with regards to improving face detection, in that it helps to enhance the features of a person. Having said that, one of the most admirable features of this camera is the "MovieSnap" mode, which allows one to capture still pictures while you're busy filming a movie.

For the sake of convenience, all of the images and video recordings are stored directly onto SD memory cards which of course you can obtain when you get the camera. This in turn makes it ever easy for one to share, edit, and transfer files. While nobody is saying that it's not nice to have a bunch of features, it certainly is nice to have a camera which is not only convenient, but also easy to use. Essentially, even those people who don't know much about digital cameras or technology in general, will be able to use this camera without any difficulty whatsoever.

The Canon Powershot SX10IS camera undoubtedly features a load of technical details but those such as the 20 x optical zoom, CCD optical sensor technology, and etcetera; certainly do stand out above the rest. Of course one cannot fail to appreciate some of the other features such as the 2.5 inch liquid crystal display and the fact that the camera conveniently produces photographs which are in JPEG format.

The camera shoots in frame movie mode and offers exposure options like beach, snapshot, high sensitivity, portrait, color accent, night snapshot, landscape, snow, color swap, aquarium, stitch assist, night scene, sunset, macro, fireworks, sports mode, foliage and indoor. There is a mode for every occasion and every scene you are in. You can just choose the setting that best describes the situation you want to take a picture in.

Best Compact Digital Cameras Now

Small is powerful, small is a revolution- this is the idea of the technology followed by the compact digital cameras. As the world is getting more and more fast, people want their gadgets to be handy. And, digital cameras are no exception to this. This is the major factor behind the birth of a compact edition of digital cameras.

It can arguably be said that digital technology is the most revolutionary discovery in the field of photography. It has changed the world of photography by producing high quality images with limited cost. The compact digital cameras on the market today are smaller in size and have many additional features than their counterparts. Compact digital cameras are, without a doubt, a step ahead the digital SLR cameras or any other camera available on the market today.

Compact digital cameras are roughly 3.5 W x 2.5 H x 1.0 D. Depending on the type, the model and the brand of your compact digital camera these dimensions can vary a little. The ideal compact digital camera must have the certified label of Jeanspocket on it. These compact cameras are so compact that you can literally keep it in the pocket of your jeans, comfortably. The ability to do this is the newer striking criterion added to the compact digital cams by the fast generation of today.

The goal behind compact digital cameras is to make photography simple and easy with no cumbersome cameras.

Apart from size these cameras offer many other incredible features. Typical features of compact digital cameras include multiple scenes, optical zooms, exposure modes and other handy functions. It is important to note that some compact digital cameras, having 11 mm or less diagonal sensors make fairly low noise at ISO 100. However, at ISO 400 and above, the noise of the camera can be quite bothersome. There are a few compact digital cameras that are so small to look at, that they demand a close look from those who wish to buy them.

The $200 to $500 price range includes the most popular models on the market today. Virtually every brand compact digital camera offers incredible features and functions. You can find sensor resolutions which vary from 3.0 to 8.0 mega pixels. The ultra-compact models are the size of a credit card. At just under an inch thick they are equipped with such features as high-resolution sensors. Advanced controls include such features as multiple AF zones, manual settings and sophisticated scene modes.

There are some shortcomings of compact digital cameras also. As the sensitivity of a digital camera can be calculated through ISO, the ISO range of a compact digital camera varies between ISO 50 and 400. While, on the other hand, the ISO range of a digital SLR camera can range from ISO 100 to1600. This makes the compact digital cameras less sensitive than digital SLR cameras.

While the realm of digital SLR?s has remained unchanged over the past few years there have been vast improvements in the field of compact digital cameras. If you are looking to purchase a compact digital camera your best bet is to figure out your needs after looking at the pros and cons for each type of camera.

Having an interest in your models is definitely a plus. If you show an interest in your subject a comfort level is reached that allows them to be more natural in front of the camera. When the shutter is clicked your chances of getting amazing photos is increased tenfold.

Personality: The best photographs show the viewer a bit of the subject's personality. This occurs best if you have an insight to the person. You want their personality to shine in the look in their eyes or the set of their mouth. A hint is that their personality will usually come out when they are not expecting a shot to be taken, so you have to be ready to take the picture when the opportunity comes.

Lighting: Most photographers prefer natural lighting. However since you want to emphasize the person's face and character, you should always consider using artificial lighting. Be sure that light is evenly distributed, or that it satisfies the angle that you want to emphasize. Lighting can have a great effect especially if your they want a serious picture.

Background: Most portraits use lighter backgrounds to emphasize the subject. However, it is also important to use the environment to add more character to your subject. Please be careful when using the environment that the color of your background and what your subject is wearing do not clash. Sometimes backgrounds become the flaw of a picture because the photographer didn't properly plan.

Plan: It is important to have a plan prior to the shoot. You not only want to make sure you have all the proper equipment but you also want to be sure that you have the qualifications necessary for the job. Prepare all the necessary materials and be sure to bring a good topic for conversation so that your subject can relax while you are shooting.

Portrait photography is a really enjoyable hobby. If you're serious in making it your career, you can be sure that it can be lucrative as long as you perfect your craft. However, remember that you should have the heart for the job because portrait photography's first requirement is interest.

Digital cameras truly make shooting and editing video easy and efficient, and with a digital camcorder you are able to create movies and then output them to tape or to a DVD, and you can even post them on the Internet.

In fact, most professionals, whether they work strictly in video or in photography as well, wouldn't dream of going out into the field to work without a digital camcorder accessory kit of some sort. This digital camcorder accessory kit should include a bag, preferably with a shoulder strap, that has been designed to carry video and camera equipment.

Generally the supplier that you purchase a camcorder from will have a digital camcorder accessory bag available that has been designed with your camcorder in mind. Often times these digital camcorder accessory bags will have plastic or foam cutouts to store your camcorder as well as several side pockets to store such things as batteries, extra recording media such as DVD's, a place for notebooks and pens and other tools of the trade.

Bizrate is a company which is operated by Shopzilla, which is a leading comparison shopping service that was founded in 1996.
Today camcorders do not seem like a particularly technologically advanced piece of equipment, however if you were to look at what the world was like about half a decade ago, you would see that the camcorders of today are incredibly advanced, especially when considered to the types of technology that were available back then.

If you are interested in finding a camcorder repair service, you can rest assured in knowing that there are many options available to you. AV Repair is one of the most well known options in regards to a camcorder repair service, and they are a longstanding company that has gained an incredibly respected reputation over the years.

In regards to how much it will cost you here to get your camcorder fixed, that obviously basically depends on what kind of problem your camcorder has, and therefore how difficult the overall repair process will be.

The next step will depend on the type of media that your camcorder uses to record. If your camcorder can record straight to DVD then you can use it to record the tape information directly.

If not, then you need to continue your camcorder tape to DVD transformation by transferring the digital video images onto the hard drive of your computer. Once you have finished this part of the camcorder tape to DVD transfer process you can then save the digital images onto whatever media your computer has available. Hopefully it has a DVD burner device.

If it does have a DVD burner, then the rest is quite simple. This is a good time to do any editing that you might require. Then simply transfer the data onto the DVD.

The imager section in particular is considered as being the eye of the camcorder, and the recorder is responsible for writing the video signal onto a recording medium so that it is stored and can be watched and edited later on.

There are many uses in the world of today for a camcorder, including that of media, home video, politics, entertainment and movies, and voyeurism. In regards to media, which is still one of the most popular fields for a camcorder, camcorders have found use in nearly all corners of the field.

Regardless of what you are planning on using it for, the camcorder is truly an important part of today's world. With a camcorder you can capture things on tape that are important to you and watch them years down the road, feeling as though you are right back in that moment of when it happened.

Review for the Canon PowerShot SD500 Digital Camera

If you're in the market for a good digital camera, you may well consider the Canon PowerShot SD500 Digital Elph. This latest model has a whopping 7.1-megapixel resolution. Of course, more megapixels doesn't necessarily lead to better images. But you can't argue with the S500's great image quality.

Speed and sharpness tests proved the SD500 a top performer. Add in the enjoyable My Color feature that will most certainly please all types of users, this camera is fun.

In design, the Canon PowerShot SD500 is comfortable to hold and control. One note however is that the tightly positioned buttons on the back are easy to press accidentally during one-handed shooting. This camera boasts a large 2 inch LCD with an optical viewfinder located directly above that keeps a smooth, bright and clear image when panning.

Outside from the 7.1 megapixel ranking, the Canon PowerShot SD500 has most of the standard features of its division, including an f/2.8 to f/4.9, 7.7- to 23.1-mm (37- to 111-mm, 35mm equivalent), 3X optical zoom lens.

All the standard modes are available via the mode dial as well as through the menu system, including Playback, Auto, Manual (which lets you adjust white balance, ISO, EV compensation, and color effects), Macro, and Movie. The Movie mode lets you capture VGA video clips at 30 frames per second. Other modes available only via the menu system include Stitch Assist (for panoramas) and nine preset scene modes.

The Canon PowerShot SD500 has a very perceptive user control system. It also offers an out of the ordinary shooting mode called My Colors. You can make blues, greens, or reds more vibrant, or lighten or darken skin tones.

Fantastic effects are created with the Color Accent and Swap Options. Color Accent allows you to isolate the color of one object, while the color information for the remaining portion of the photograph is removed. The result might be the bright yellow sun in the middle of a black-and-white sky.

In Color Swap mode, you select a certain color in a scene on the LCD, and then select the color you want to swap it with. For example, you could isolate the bright red of one car and swap it with the blue from another. You have to make your color selections before you shoot however, so make sure you're not going to miss the shot.

The Canon PowerShot SD500 allocates your pictures to SD memory cards for storage. There's also direct link to Canon CP Printers and select BJ Printers. This in fact means that you do not need a computer to print pictures.

The Canon PowerShot SD500 uses proprietary lithium batteries. The promoted battery life is about 160 shots with the LCD on and about 550 shots with the LCD off. You can always buy extras at you local camera store to take along with you if a long battery life is important to you or needed for the situation.

Another unusual feature is an optional DC coupler, supported via a flap on the battery/media compartment door. This lets you run the camera off AC power (via an optional adapter) while you charge the battery in the included external charger.

On the whole, the Canon PowerShot SD500 is a great camera. One shortcoming is that it has some problems finding the intended focusing point in Macro mode. Also, when the flash fired in the macro shots, most of the picture was very overexposed - except for some areas near the bottom of the image, where a dark shadow appeared because of the extended lens blocking the flash.

Another drawback is the mode dial design. Only the center (Manual) mode's label shows as level when chosen. The other labels (Playback, Auto, Macro and Movie) are slanted when you turn the dial.

Be sure however that the Canon PowerShot SD500 is a great ultra-compact camera. From its looks to its capabilities, this camera is impressive. Then once you add on its remarkably unique features, the Canon SD500 stands out among the rest as a contender for a top seller.

If you want to purchase a digital camera, you really must have at least some idea of what you need to look out for and avoid. You don't have to be an expert, but you must at least know some basics to make sure you don't end up with an inadequate camera for your digital photography. The following is a series of things you need to understand and look out for, there there is less plus several things you must avoid.

1. megapixels:

With the exception of the high-end professional digital cameras of 12 plus megapixels, the number of megapixels a digital camera is capable of generally speaking is the most important quality factor when it comes to how good your digital photos will come out. In the case of the high-end digital cameras the lenses themselves will also play a very important part.

A very important thing to look out for when you are buying a digital camera is to read the small print as it were in regards to the megapixels of the camera. You see a lot of digital camera manufacturers will try to trick you into thinking they're digital camera is capable of a higher number of megapixels then is really true.

What many digital camera manufacturers do is to print on the camera or in their manuals say six megapixels in big writing, but underneath there's writing where they will put something like five megapixels enhanced to six using software. If the camera states something along these lines the camera is not truly six megapixels at all. If the camera has to use software to enhance its number of megapixels it will not be as good as a true six megapixel camera.

How much zoom do you need?

How much zoom your digital camera should have is really going to depend on the sort of use you give your camera, so only you can make this decision. However it's important to remember that the more zoom you have the more you are going to be able to do with your camera.

Most digital cameras come with two different types of zoom, digital zoom and optical zoom. With digital zoom the more you zoom in, the more the total number of pixels in the image will decrease resulting in a considerable loss of quality. With optical zoom the number of pixels in the image stays the same because the camera will make use of its lenses to make the area you are focusing on bigger thus not losing quality.

Many digital cameras here too can be misleading since they will often state the maximum digital zoom in big letters on the camera without actually stating that it is in fact digital zoom, they will of course tell you that it is digital zoom so as to cover themselves legally but again only with very small print nearby.

In my opinion digital zoom is about as useful as mud, I'd much rather not use digital zoom and instead digitally enlarged the picture at home on my PC. This way I would be able to see exactly how much picture quality I would be losing and I would still have the original picture at full quality.

The powersupply for your digital camera:

The powersupply is something greatly ignored when people buy digital cameras. People just don't consider it, yet when you think about it having a reliable power source for your digital camera is vital to make sure you don't ever run out of power right when you need your digital camera most.

AA and AAA batteries are the most common method used to power the lower end digital cameras. In many ways having this kind can be a good thing in that these batteries are cheap and easily replaceable at anytime.

Specially made lithium battery packs are normally used in the higher end digital cameras. Because of the fact these battery packs are specifically made for the cameras in question they are also normally considerably more expensive.

These batteries normally last longer than normal batteries, but you will still want to have at least one spare battery Pack. Because of the price of these batteries you will need to take them into account when you're purchasing your digital camera.

A few digital cameras have the capability of being able to take both their own specific battery pack and normal AA or AAA rechargeable batteries you can find at any supermarket.

When comparing different digital camera models remember to take into account all of these details. You should also read up on camera reviews on the different digital camera models you are reviewing to see how each camera compares to each other.

This is especially important if you are buying a high-end digital camera, since as I have mentioned there are other factors such as the digital cameras lenses that will affect the quality of the pictures the digital camera takes.

The Special Marine Digital Camera

The art of underwater photography is only carried out using special marine digital cameras operated by professionals from many scientific disciplines. Using an marine digital camera requires skill as you are operating in a foreign environment Many waterproof cameras are ok but they cannot be submerged for more than a meter below the surface of the water

I for one would love to have a proper marine digital camera but this is not likely to happen and I really don't go into the sea often enough to make it worthwhile.

You see, water pressure is the real problem for these cameras as well as water leaks Of course quality camera manufacturers have overcome this problem by creating watertight plastic cases that encompass the digital camera. Cases like this, inexpensive in comparison to a real marine digital camera, can for a while make you believe that you too are some kind of underwater photographer.

If you are shooting with your marine digital camera, you need to take note of a few things to help you come up with the best underwater images.

Water diffuses the light and the farther down you go the more this diffusion occurs. This means that your marine digital camera will produce images darker than those images you took while on land so to avoid this, use white balance adjustment to help with natural colors. You will also notice when you see the pictures taken underwater that they appear larger than they should; this is part of the magnifying effect water has. Many novices make the mistake of not checking the viewfinder carefully to make sure they are going to take a picture containing exactly what they want in the final shot.

You don't want to have a camera that leaks when you go underwater so before you dive, check that the case is waterproof by holding it below the surface for a few seconds. Especially check the seal to make sure that a grain of sand or even a hair hasn't broken the seal. Small silica gel packs can be useful if they can fit in the case without causing an obstruction.

Optional lenses are often available so if you can add these to your marine digital camera then do so. It is possible to get really close to some subject for great close-up shots using a macro lens.

The seals on the marine digital camera need to be kept clean and free fro contaminants so ensure the camera is thoroughly rinsed of when you return to the surface. In particular where sand is present then a stream of water to rinse it off is best.

You will find out more about marine digital cameras at the Sony, canon or Nikon web site who are manufacturers that produce this type of specialized item.

As you print your digital photos you have a choice of a matte or glossy finish. Glossy photo prints are named so due to their shiny finish while matte prints are more subtle and neutral. But how do you know which option is right for both you and the image you want to print? Basically the choice is up to you. There are advantages and disadvantages to bothlet's take a look.

What chemicals are used when the digital photos are printed will determine what the resulting finish will look like. Again the difference is easy to tell. Glossy prints reflect light well, are shiny and are very animated in their color. Matte finish however does not reflect much light and colors tend to be more muted than lively.

Let's take a look at some of the pros and cons that come with both glossy and matte digital photo finishes.

Glossy photo prints: Glossy photo prints are shiny and are more appealing to the eye. They look fancy and convey a high quality feeling. Glossy photo prints have vibrant colors. Colors also look rich and deep on glossy photo prints. On the downside glossy photo prints "shiny" attribute can be a problem when photos are viewed using intense light sources such as daylight sun or strong light bulbs. Light reflected from the photo print can blind the viewer making it hard to see the photo. Glossy paper is also more likely to attract dust and fingerprints and is thus more likely to get dirty over time. Black and white glossy photo prints do not look as good as matte ones.

Matte finish: Matte photo prints do not reflect light and are thus easier to view at almost any light condition. Matte photo prints are also less likely to attract dust and fingerprints and are less likely to get dirty over time. Black and white matte photo prints look better than black and white glossy photo prints. On the downside matte photo prints do not have the fancy high quality look that glossy photo prints have. Colors in matte photo prints are less vibrant and less rich than on glossy photo prints.

So which one to choose - matte or glossy? It really depends on your needs and what you are going to do with the photo prints. As a general rule use glossy photo prints for color prints and matte photo prints for black and white ones. If the photo prints are going to be touched by many people and used a lot matte is a better choice unless you do not mind spending time cleaning your glossy photo prints every now and then. Also if you plan to print large photos (for example to hang on the wall or frame and put on your desk) matte is a better choice since a large glossy print would act as a large glossy and shiny light reflector.

As with many other choices a matter or glossy choice is a matter of personal preference. To make an educated decision you should have experienced both. If you do not have that experience you can choose a few photos some color and some black and white and print them both on matte and on glossy paper and in different sizes. Look at the prints and see what you like and what you do not like about them. In the future you would be able make better choices by applying that experience.

When people take digital images and put them on their computers, the pictures are generally not perfect. This is where enhancements come in, they will make it so your picture looks almost professional. One enhancement that is used often is the sharpness enhancement. The sharpness enhancement is extremely helpful. Basically it improves the quality on a fuzzy picture.

While almost every editor has a sharpness adjustment, most of them are not top notch in their results. The best ones incorporate internal algorithms to help enhance the photo. A blurry photos or one with fuzzy borders and lines can be greatly improved upon.

Today, one of the most commonly used tools is resizing a photograph. What is less heard of is re-sampling. What is the difference? Well resizing is just changing the pixels, while resample is using an actual algorithm to fix the picture so that is appears not blurry, fuzzy, blocked when it is changed. With resizing to enlarge a picture some of the pixels will be doubled.

With resizing some of the pixels will be removed when reducing an image resulting in some lines of the photo disappearing. Re-sampling however uses algorithms to determine the new size of the pixels. When re-sampling to a larger size, color will be added as a result of interpolation. When reducing an image through re-sampling, the actual pixels will be re-calculated. A good image editor will have multiple algorithms for resizing and re-sampling options.

One of the most asked questions is how to convert photo files to get smaller pictures. This procedure is especially helpful if you want to send files via the internet. The two methods of achieving this are the lossless and the lossy formats. The image remains precisely the same as it originally was with the lossless format. Essentially different methods are applied to get a smaller but nearly untouched photo. The most common format for photo software is .png.

The disadvantage is the image can still end up too big, but the image will be completely unchanged. Lossy formats will actually lose some information. The advantage to this way is you will be able to pick the size you want it to end up in. The common form it is saved in is a .jpg. This will create small photos that will upload places quite easily. There are the ups and downs for both of these forms, basically do you want a smaller original or do you mind some of the photo being lost in order to make it really small.

Along with the importance of editing photos comes the importance of viewing your images. In order to easily access your photos your photo viewer should be able to be customized, easy to use, have printable contact sheets, photo enhancement tools, convenient for getting the pictures, be able to manage EXIF data and be able to batch process images.

Another good photo viewer is Photophilia which is exceptionally adjustable and able to batch process. Choose a photo viewer that you are comfortable with based on your computer skills. You can opt for a viewer that is quick and simple or go for a more complicated viewer that comes with some more functions. Handy functions to look for are slide show, batch processor, editor functions and zoom factor.

Good focus of objects is a key element in producing a high quality digital photograph. You can achieve proper focus by two different methods, manual or automatic. We will concentrate on one method in particular that falls into the automatic focus category: combined auto focus.

High quality sharp and crisp digital photos are a result of many optical parameters that need to be set right. One of the most important optical parameters is focus. When objects in a digital photo are out of focus they look blurry and are missing details and clarity. When objects are in focus they look sharp and crisp.

While the photographer can manually set the focus, most of the time the digital camera's automatic focus is much faster and easier. There are many different methods and algorithms to automatically establish the right focus for the situation that a digital camera uses. Passive and active auto focus are two of these algorithms. These two algorithms in particular are used in one type of combined auto focus system to provide excellent automatic focus.

The camera performs image processing algorithms to establish a Focus Level number. This number is reached through a process much too detailed and difficult to tackle in this article. Let's just say that the camera can determine how good the focus is and then find the best focus for the scene. There are the occasions where the passive auto focus is restricted or does not work at all. It does not function well in low lighting conditions and does not work at all in dark scenarios. It is also difficult to focus on low contrast objects such as solid surfaces or walls.

Passive auto focus systems use software that runs on the digital camera built-in computer. The camera performs such image processing algorithms to establish a Focus Level number. This equation is much too complex to address here. Let's just say that the camera can calculate how good the focus is and find the best focus for the scenario. In some scenes the passive auto focus is limited or not serviceable at all. It does not work well in reduced lighting conditions and does not work at all in dark scenes. It is also hard to focus on low contrast objects such as walls or solid surfaces.

Cameras that are equipped with combined auto focus systems pick the right system for the specific scene or cross check by using both systems at the same time. The photographer can also manually decide to use one of the two options. For example when shooting blue skies the camera can try to use the active system and measure the distance. Since the distance is infinite the camera can set the focus and skip the passive focus. In other cases when the distance is not infinite the camera can use the active system to put the lens in approximately the right position and then use the passive system for fine tuning. In dark scenarios the camera can opt to use the active system since the passive system will not work.
