Eat More To Lose Weight

If you need to lose weight, it probably seems wrong to eat more. However, it works to eat more simply because doing a starvation diet doesn't work. That's because you can damage your body irreparably (including your metabolism, which helps you burn calories), which will actually thwart your weight loss efforts, instead of helping them. And that, in fact, can lead to obesity. However, by following a few simple tips, you can have a healthy body AND metabolism well into your old age.

The reason you need to eat more often to lose weight is because there's a relationship between your metabolic rate and how frequently you eat. That is, your body functions in a particular way if you don't eat for three or more hours. When your body doesn't get the nutrition it needs to function, it begins to go into starvation mode, which is something like hibernation.

Starvation mode puts you in a survival stage, and your metabolic rate is actually slowed so that you're sure to burn fat as slowly as possible. In this way, under true famine conditions, for example, you'll maintain minimum energy levels so that you can survive under harsh conditions. This is also the mode where you preserve the most fat.

Another thing that happens in this mode is that the production of insulin and other enzymes that stores the food as fat, is increased so when you have your next meal, more fat than usual is stored in the body. And finally when you don't eat for more than 3 hours our appetite increases. You end up feeling full, like after Christmas dinner. This condition doesn't promote fat burning at all. On the contrary, it decreases the metabolic rate and ensures that more fat is stored in the body.

Eat more Frequently To Lose Weight

To lose weight, what you need to do is to eat smaller portions, more frequently. Eat every two hours or so, which is a great way to avoid overeating and keep your metabolic rate humming along. You can snack on fruits and vegetables or eat other healthy snacks between (small) meals, which will help keep you satisfied and from getting too hungry. This will also give you the energy you need so that your body is not encouraged to store fat.

To do this right, you have to plan a little. The next time you go shopping, buy some healthy snack supplies. For example, you could mash a boiled egg with some cottage or cream cheese and put it on a stick of celery or some carrots with fresh almonds. Get creative! Have some small snack available all the time so that you don't reach for junk food. Try to eat something small every two hours.

Smaller portions for a smaller gut

At home use a small plate or if in a restaurant, ask for child's size serving. Have a broth soup to start the meal. Try to get 80% off your food eaten before four o'clock. Have a glass of water 10 minutes before each meal or have a piece of dark chocolate. Both of these ideas will take the edge off your appetite.

When done this way, your body will use the food you eat, but it will store food if you don't use it. It's not so much how much you eat, but when and how often you eat that matters when it comes to losing weight. That is in fact why you have to eat more to lose weight. Have a large breakfast, keep snacking through lunch, snack in the afternoon, and then have a very small meal at night. In fact, if you haven't eaten in the last three hours, you could go get yourself something to eat now.
